IoT sensor network

Live mountain weather-station network with public access and operational value.

The IoT sensor network project is live and publicly visible through the Visit Pohorje weather conditions portal, where users can monitor current and daily mountain conditions from multiple stations (for example around 950 m, 1043 m, 1165 m, 1245 m, and 1290 m elevation).

In plain English from the Slovenian reporting: a modern public weather-station system is operating on Pohorje, initiated by Amadej Krepek (Meteoinfo Slovenija) and deployed in collaboration with local operators, so both visitors and local providers can plan activities with better weather awareness.

Published details also describe near-real-time data flow over LoRaWAN, with updates every few minutes and potentially down to 1-minute intervals when network conditions are good, plus long device lifetime and support for trend analysis and extreme-weather awareness.

Operationally, this network improves local forecast calibration and closes gaps where radar and models alone are insufficient, while enabling tailored sector products for tourism, ski operations, infrastructure management, and risk-aware planning.
